Blue card Rust: monument routes and red card
Blue card in Rust unlocks medium-level monumental puzzles. Behind these doors, you can find more military and regular crates, and usually, at the end of the route, there is a red card. This guide covers Power Plant, Airfield, Train Yard, and Water Treatment Plant: what to bring, where to power up, and how not to lose loot on the way out.
Where to get the blue card
The main way is to complete one of the green puzzles. The blue card is located in a locked room in Satellite Dishes, Harbor, or Sewer Branch. All basic routes are listed in our guide on the green card.
You can also buy the blue card at the tool vending machine at Outpost for scrap. This option is useful when the team has already accumulated currency, but the nearest green room is constantly occupied. Buying saves time, although at the start of the wipe, scrap may be more needed for researching items and workbenches.
Check the durability of the card immediately after receiving it. Each pass through the reader reduces its resource. If you plan a chain of several monuments, it's better to have a spare card or finish the route before the indicator drops to zero.
Preparing for the blue puzzle
| Monument | Cards and fuses | Radiation reference |
|---|---|---|
| Power Plant | green + blue, 1 fuse | about 25 protection |
| Airfield | green + blue, 2 fuses | about 10 protection, better to take more |
| Train Yard | blue, green optional, 1 fuse | about 25 protection |
| Water Treatment Plant | blue, 1 fuse | about 25 protection |
Radiation protection numbers are a practical guideline, not a promise of complete safety. Radiation depends on the specific area and time inside. Take a supply of water, medications, and clothing with a small reserve. On modified servers, parameters may vary.
Before starting the chain, walk around the object along the outer perimeter. Remember the building with the electrical panel, the entrance to the closed part, and the nearest shelter. The fuse is consumed after activation, so you need to study the map before installing it.
Power Plant
You need: green card, blue card, one fuse, and about 25 units of radiation protection.
Find the three-story building in the corner of the area and turn on the switch under the stairs. Then cross the monument to the low building with a sloping roof, turn on the power and timer there. After that, head to the main building and open the green door.
Inside, activate the switch on the first floor, go up two flights, turn the corner, and install the fuse. Now go to the blue door, apply the card, and go higher for the red card and additional loot. Do not confuse the external new functionality of the Power Plant from the Power Trip update with the local chain of card rooms: the island network creates additional activities, but a separate route is still needed for the closed area.
The object is large and loud. It is advantageous for the team to divide roles: one player activates the first switches, the second waits closer to the main building and watches the entrances. For solo players, it's better to first go through the route without valuable items and memorize the doors.
Airfield
You need: green card, blue card, two fuses, and radiation protection.
Enter the service building through the garage entrance on the left. In the room on the right, install the first fuse and activate the timer. Then descend into the underground entrance and, facing the hangars, move to the right. Apply the green card to the first door.
After passing, turn right, find the second electrical panel, and insert another fuse. Return to the blue door next to the area you just passed through, use the card, and collect the loot. The red card is located in the closed part of the route.
The underground corridors make the Airfield a dangerous place for solo players. Footstep sounds bounce off the walls, and an enemy may be waiting at the only convenient exit. Before entering, leave some medications within easy reach and do not stand in the doorway while sorting items.
Train Yard
You need: blue card, one fuse, about 25 radiation protection. The green card opens an additional room, but it is not mandatory for the blue route.
Enter the three-story building and turn on the switch roughly in the center of the first floor. Go up to the upper level and activate the outdoor switch. Then move to the adjacent building, go up to the first flight of stairs, find the electrical panel in the far right part, insert the fuse, and power up.
Exit through the same door. The green room is located one floor above, which can be opened additionally. Go up one more level to the blue door, use the card, and collect the crates with the red card. The Train Yard provides a good amount of loot, but its tall structures are great for observation and long-range shots.
If you arrive in a modular car, do not park at the main entrance. Hide the transport behind relief and leave enough space for turning before leaving.
Water Treatment Plant
You need: blue card, one fuse, about 25 radiation protection.
Enter the central building through the massive airlocks: hold interaction on the wheel until the passage opens. Go up to the service room, install the fuse in the block on the left, and start the timer. Then run to a separate building with a blue door on the second floor.
Use the card, collect the crates and the red card. To exit, activate the internal switch in the far office part. Do not waste time sorting before checking the exit: a player who forgot to close the door from the inside can lose seconds and become an easy target.
The Water Treatment Plant has open spaces, channels, and several heights. Before starting, inspect the roofs and towers. If you hear a fight nearby, sometimes it's better to wait until the winner starts healing or processing components before activating your route.
Comparison of blue monuments
| Monument | Route difficulty | Main risk |
|---|---|---|
| Power Plant | High | Many switches and a long path |
| Airfield | High | Two fuses and underground ambushes |
| Train Yard | Medium | Open heights and rooftop overview |
| Water Treatment Plant | Medium | Open territory between buildings |
What to do with the red card
It's better to immediately deliver the red card to a secure storage. It leads to Military Tunnels, Launch Site, and other high-level zones where serious weapons, medications, and protection are needed. Detailed routes are compiled in our guide on red cards in Rust.
For radiation routes, drinks from the mixing table guide will be useful, but tea does not replace protective clothing. If the next stage requires explosives, check expenses on the Rust raid table in advance and do not carry all resources in one group.
Common mistakes
- Bringing one fuse to Airfield instead of two.
- Forgetting to take the green card to Power Plant.
- Starting the timer before studying the route.
- Leaving equipment without a radiation protection reserve.
- Sorting loot immediately behind the door and not controlling the exit.
- Driving home on an obvious straight road with the red card.
- Trying to pass a complex object solo during prime time.
Optimal progression order
- Get the green card at a roadside monument.
- Complete Dishes or Harbor and retrieve the blue card.
- Choose either Train Yard or Water Treatment Plant as the first medium route.
- Return the red card to the base and gather a full combat kit.
- Only then proceed to the red doors.
Current card reset dates are available in the wipe calendar. You can choose a suitable pace of development mode from the Prostoj server list, and we mark monument changes in the Rust update news section.
Conclusion: for the first blue route, Train Yard or Water Treatment Plant is more convenient. Power Plant and Airfield require more switches and are better explored in a team. The main goal is not the maximum number of crates but the safe delivery of the red card home.
Answers to common questions
Where to buy the blue card?
It is sold by the tool vending machine at Outpost. The price may be more convenient than a full green route if the team already has scrap and needs to quickly replace a lost card. Before buying, compare expenses with current goals: an early workbench or an important blueprint is often a priority.
Can you skip the green room at Train Yard?
Yes. The green door at Train Yard provides additional loot, but it is not mandatory for the main blue part of the route. If the card is worn out, the timer is running out, or there are enemies nearby, head straight to the blue door and keep the main goal - the red card.
Why do you need two fuses at Airfield?
The route consists of two electrical stages. The first one is activated in the service building and opens the green section of the underground part. After passing through, the second fuse is installed, which powers the blue door. One spare element does not replace the required second one.
Which blue monument is more beneficial for solo play?
Train Yard and Water Treatment Plant are usually easier to learn due to their shorter chain logic. At the same time, both areas are well surveilled by opponents. Choose the object not only based on loot but also on the location of your base, server activity, familiarity with the route, and the availability of safe transport.
What to do if the red card is missing?
Check the entire final room and upper levels, make sure you have come to the right part. If the spot is empty, another player may have recently taken the card, and the loot has not yet respawned. Do not waste additional scans unnecessarily: take the available items and repeat the route later.
Is a partner necessary?
Mechanically, all four puzzles can be completed alone. A partner is needed for roof, tunnel, and entrance control, not for pressing buttons. At Airfield and Power Plant, role division is especially useful: one player starts the chain, the second is closer to the next stage.
Does power remain after death?
The electrical chain continues to work only for the remaining time. Returning after death usually takes longer than the fuse lasts. Do not build a plan around a repeat run: set up a sleeping bag in advance, but consider cards and main loot lost until the area is rechecked.
Leave a spare fuse and a second set of clothing in a shelter or transport, rather than carrying everything to one character.
The loot composition, object locations, and individual parameters may vary on modified servers.
Before leaving, check your health, radiation protection, and free inventory slots again. Such control reduces the risk of losing the blue card due to a simple route mistake.
