Developers are cutting Rust+ capabilities to combat bots
Developers are cutting Rust+ capabilities to combat bots
A number of changes are being prepared on a separate branch that will slightly reduce the capabilities of Rust+. In particular, the application will no longer be able to track the location of boxes, explosion sites, and view cameras on monuments.
Viewing player-hosted cameras will also be restricted - they can now only be viewed when you are disconnected from the server. Tracking players and other objects through cameras will also become significantly more difficult, if not impossible.
Why these changes? Over the past year, some bots have become popular among players, which have automated many processes through the functionality of Rust+:
• track events on the server (helicopter explosion, arrival of a cargo ship, location of a hacked box, etc.)
• notifications about the connection and disconnection of the player you are interested in
• information about which players are currently present at a particular monument (using cameras on the monuments)
• launch a drone that will automatically move and track the movement of any player
• and much more
Over the last two months, complaints about these bots and calls for limiting their capabilities or banning them completely have been actively appearing in the foreign Rust community. Recently, the developers officially stated that they do not support these bots, as they abuse the functionality of the application.
Today one of the paid bots stopped selling subscriptions due to upcoming changes and the uncertainty about the future of bots in general.
The changes will most likely be included in the next update, which will be released on May 4 at 21:00 Moscow time.
